Jason Beirne - Managing Guru

Jason started his career in 1994 as a clinical Nuclear Medicine technologist. After 2 years he moved away from clinical to become one of the first to set up a cGMP centralised radiopharmacy (CRP) in Australia. Now the standard worldwide, cGMP had not been extensively applied to CRP at the time which necessitated pioneering adaptation of existing practices.

Jason subsequently accepted the challenge of taking over the New Zealand operations to establish and run Nuclear Medicine practices. During this time he also acquired and integrated a local distributor of radiopharmaceuticals and imaging accessories. Building such a strong culture, most of the original staff remain to this day. On his return to Australia, Jason established the sales and marketing team covering the AU/NZ businesses and was instrumental in diversifying the company into new areas such as brachytherapy, radiation detection and facility design and build.

Moving to a new role in Singapore, Jason was responsible for the Asia Pacific management of the cyclotron, radiochemistry and preclinical imaging product lines for one of the world’s top healthcare manufacturers. This required gaining an in-depth understanding of these niche markets as well as needing to advise customers on other equipment and the facility design required to meet their country’s regulatory directives or their unique animal imaging needs.

Another move to Malaysia saw Jason become responsible for the Asia Pacific distribution of radiopharmaceuticals for a major European manufacturer and he also took on the management of a local PET cyclotron facility. Managing the complexities of dangerous goods transport from Europe throughout Asia was a daily challenge in this role, as was understanding the complex regulatory environments in each country. The PET facility in Kuala Lumpur also went from start-up phase to cGMP certified under Jason’s leadership and was entering the final stages of product registration at the end of his tenure.

The call of the sunburnt country proved too much, returning Jason and his family to Australia at the end of 2013 where he took up a senior role with a market-leading supplier of software and accessories in radiation therapy.

The stars aligned in 2015 when the timing was right for Jason and Hans to re-join forces and combine their extensive industry knowledge, their commitment to service and their fun and unique attitude to business to start Gamma Gurus.
